The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize was not won by the US president Donald Trump and he criticized Norway for this decision. He connected not winning the Nobel Peace Prize with his opinions on immigration, so people discussed about Trump’s comments.

The comment was made on October 25 in Port Huron, Michigan. He used harsh words against Norway and gave negative comments about Norwegian immigrants coming to US , this was said while Trump was speaking to the supporters.

He made those comments before the November 3 US elections. Immigration and other U.S. issues were discussed by Trump in European countries, including France.

Trump Disappointed Over Nobel Peace Prize

Trump has said many times that he deserves praise for his attempts to bring peace between countries. Trump thinks he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize and feels disappointed that he did not win it.

It doesn’t mean the Norwegian government personally rejected him just because Trump did not win the prize. The Norwegian Nobel Committee individually selects the winner of the Nobel Peace prize, it is not selected by Norway's Government. An independent committee will provide the award Noble peace prize.

Norway’s Response to Trump’s Comments

Espen Barth Eide, Norway’s Foreign minister explained that the winner of the Noble peace prize is not decided by the Government. The Noble committee independently made the decision.

Norway's parliament selects the committee members, but the committee itself decides who receives the Nobel Peace Prize. The government does not decide who receives the prize.

the committee makes the final decision on who gets the Nobel Peace Prize, Norway's government is not the one who chooses it.

Could This Affect US - Norway Relations?

Trump’s comments got attention about the relationship between the US and Norway. There is no clear evidence that his remarks will lead to any major changes between the two countries, even though they have made more public discussion.

It does not mean that the US has officially changed its immigration law just because Trump talked about it. The actual government policy is different from his statement. There is no confirmation report that the US had created any new immigration rules that target Norwegian citizens.

As the US elections get closer, immigration and the country's relationships with other nations remain important political topics.

What happens next between the US and Norway will depend on whether their governments make official decisions or announce anything new.
